Gold Trim-Unlockable Caracters
Here is MY concept for how this could work:
Master Core has taken control of various armies and characters in the Smash universe, Link, Pit, Lucina, and Shulk have joined together to put an end to this. They must fight there way through various friends/enemies to free them of MC's control and take back the Smash Universe. In addition to various characters you will also fight bosses from the various games represented (like in Hyrule Warriors)

In story you start out only with the four mentioned above but as you go on more and more characters join you, however they are already unlocked for the other modes (Arena and Free Battle) However gold trim characters must be unlocked by playing story and freeing them from Master Core's control.
